Model Review: Bulkhead

Today we take a look at Bulkhead who is a Guard class hero in Riot Quest and a Khador solo in Warmachine and Hordes.

It comes in six metal parts.

The main body is big. To be honest I expected that the body and the shield would be resin for this model. The detail in the model is good though with crisp casting especially around areas like the ammo bandoleer.

So much detail with all the leg pistons and the boiler grill, its going to be a nice model to paint I think.

Both arm connection points are deep and secure, and the shoulder pads on the arms lock in and rest on areas of detail like the pipe you can see here to mean they are pretty strong connections.

This shield is really big,,, I've seen smaller shields carried by heavy Warjacks!

These raised lines match up to hold the arm in place nicely. 

The arm holding the shotgun is nicely done as well. I appreciate the wood grain in the stock of the shotgun, it makes them a lot easier to paint.

There is a slight mould line running down the gun, it came off pretty quickly.

You can see the large rectangle slot in the forearm here which the shield fits onto.

These armour flaps fit onto the front and back of the model respectively. They are the most frustrating part of the model for me as they are difficult to keep in place while the glue dries.

And here it is fully assembled.

Well... technically fully assembled, but actually I didn't glue on the shield arm as I think it will be easier to paint as a sub assembly. It is a testament to the designer though that a shield that big stayed on while I took all these pictures without any glue.

This is a really big mini, while I am still disappointed that it isn't resin but have been very impressed that it goes together as well as it does. 

I only really plan on using him in Riot Quest, and I will be trying to paint him as similar as I can to my friends Khador army.

I wanted to also note the new packaging for this wave of Riot Quest minis. Fully cardboard with a Replaceable front panel (which is the art card with the same section of fluff for the mini) means that every Riot Quest mini can use the same packaging. As well as there being no plastic packaging!

This does have the slight downside that shipping them in padded envelopes could lead to the packaging being crushed where as the old plastic blister packs had no problems with this. But that's a small price to pay to be more environmentally friendly.
