Model Review: Ol’ Grim

Today we take a look at Ol' Grim who is a Scout class hero in Riot Quest and a Cryx/Khador solo in Warmachine and Hordes. He comes in three metal parts.

The ghostly smoke that forms the lower half of Grim is nicely sculpted with varied flowing parts. The attachment point is pretty good and I don't think I will be pinning him,

The upper half of the mini has Grim wearing a greatcoat like its a cape, it flows out behind him nicely with nicely done fur trim.

His hat has the Khadoran logo with a skull in the middle which is a neat detail. There is a slight mould line running down his face which I was a bit disappointed with, but then once I dry fit the rifle I found it didn't really matter because the rifle covers it completely.

Though the rifle looks thin its not as delicate as some others I've assembled (Sloan in Cygnar stands out as a thin rifle which was prone to bending)
I was wondering if this would need pinning, but cleverly whoever designed how it assembles made it so the side of the rifle which butts up against the rest of the mini (the left side of it) is sculpted to exactly match the contours of the mini so it fits brilliantly!

And here he is fully assembled!

And here is the scale shot with Professor Pendrake.

I think Ol' Grim is a fantastic mini with loads of character and is nicely made. I got it for Riot Quest (as I don't play Khador or Cryx) but I think it will make a perfect boss encounter for IKRPG as well!

I wanted to also note the new packaging for this wave of Riot Quest minis. Fully cardboard with a Replaceable front panel (which is the art card with the same section of fluff for the mini) means that every Riot Quest mini can use the same packaging. As well as there being no plastic packaging!
This does have the slight downside that shipping them in padded envelopes could lead to the packaging being crushed where as the old plastic blister packs had no problems with this. But that's a small price to pay to be more environmentally friendly.
