Swamp Gobber River Raiders Painted

So I finished off a lot of Gobbers!!! Among this lot are 9 River Raiders, the Gobbers from the two Iron Kingdoms board games; Undercity & Widowers Wood and finally a IKRPG character who is very dear to my heart.

The River Raiders are a lovely set of models, you get three in a blister pack and their heads are separate which allows you to mix and match them to have all nine look different!
I love this and posed each one a little bit differently as well to really help make them look unique as well as mixing up the colours used to paint them.

I painted all the Gobbers together by picking a random colour (out of a set I had picked which I thought appropriate for various clothing) and then painting a different piece of clothing that colour on each Gobber. A wrist band on one, then shorts on the next, vest on another... I did this with a lot of different colours to break up any uniformity.
Its the same technique I used when I painted my pirate models, which I found worked well.

These guys have the "beanie hat" looking head, which is my least favourite but don't mistake me here,,, I still love them! All my Gobbers are precious to me...

I love the screaming eye patch head, I think it might be my favourite!

Tricorn hat and cigar has a lot of charm as well though... Gobbers truly are a joy to paint.

I tried my best to paint a lit cigar with an orange thin line followed by grey ash at the end. I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Next up are the Gobbers from the Undercity board game, Pog is the Player character mechanik who controls the groups Warjack Doorstop (Which I haven't finished painting yet)

Pog's model is based off a Cygnar Gobber field mechanik with the following alterations (that I can see, there may be more) the left hand and helmet its holding have been replaced with the arm holding the oil can. Where the helmet would have been a "flight cap" looking hat with goggles has been added. A Trencher backpack has been added.
There is some missing detail and areas where things blend together with these three as they are the oldest of PP's board game minis.

The Gobber cutthroats are the same sculpt as an old IKRPG model. I painted their scabbards the same colour as the plastic they are made from as this is how you know which to activate at what time during the game. I also painted the line on the base arcs that same colour.

These are the gobbers which are included in the Widowers Wood board game. I found the colour swapping technique for different parts of their clothes.
I painted the eye patch/bandana's the same colours as their plastic but this time there is also the purple one for the "boss gobber".

And this little guy is Rez who was my old IKRPG character. The model is the old metal IKRPG model which the Undercity ones are the same sculpt as. I converted the model slightly by removing the dagger from the right hand and replacing it with an old Ork stick bomb and I added a second one to his belt. (to represent a grenade) I also cut off the pointed hood from his back and added a backpack with a coil of rope. (every good adventurer needs a coil of rope!) He is an Intellectual Alchemist thief and I miss him... (he may return one day...)

This metal model has better sculpted detail than the board game plastic ones do, and as he is my character I spent more time painting him.

What do you think of my gobbers? I know I have a soft spot for the little guys!

It took me a long time to get these painted but I'm really glad that I did and really look forward to using the River Raiders with both my Minions and Pirate armies.

Model Review: 100% Mayhem Gear Expansion

Today we take a look at the Mayhem Gear Expansion for Riot Quest.
Unlike ever other Riot Quest release this one has no application in Warmachine and Hordes, though you could use various models as Objectives of flags if put onto bases of the appropriate size.

The set contains 6 models, 5 of which are resin and one is metal. There is also a folded gloss sheet of paper with the Gear rules and a set of Stat cards to use the different gear in game.

The fake gate is really nicely sculpted and all the resin injection ports are on side surfaces which can be cut off and filed flat with no risk to detail which is great.

I love the right angle supports at the back half. I have seen a couple of people paint this in interesting ways such as the back half and edges being corrugated cardboard and another person did woodgrain. I'm not sure how I will end up painting it.

The dimensions and positioning is slightly different compared to the normal Spawn gate, but I think that's fine as its a false approximation rather than a one for one replication.

The portals are really neat looking, loads of techno looking parts all over them. They will be great for people who like doing source lighting (I'm not great at it myself though...)
I will likely be painting one orange and the other blue... if you know - you know...

Resin injection ports on these are on the bottom and side, as is typical lately they are well placed and easy to clean up.
It is slightly smaller than I expected, but as its not a "model" in game it needs to be able to share a space with a hero sometimes so it makes sense.

The surgery table is nicely detailed and injection ports are placed well. It has a mould line running straight across it, but is luckily not a bad one so was easy enough to remove.

This little guy is called a Gobbler and its a loot roomba sorta thing! It looks goofy in an awesome way I'm looking forward to painting it!

Slight mould line across the model, including inside the vacuum area which was a bit tricky to clean.

The metal Hypervelocity turret is like a jack-in-the-box looking gun turret. Very on brand for Riot Quest.

I decided to base them all and give them the same metal plate basing that I used for the Spawn gates.

I think overall they are really nice models and great gear options I'm looking forward to the crazy antics I will get up to with them!

They are a bit expensive for what you get so I can't recommend them as an auto buy at all!
I do wonder how another player who doesn't own them will feel about them given the cool rules they give you access to as they aren't easy to "share" like the treasure or gate expansions.

Model Review: Helga on Wheels

Helga on Wheels is a Scout class hero in Riot Quest and a Minions Warlock in Hordes.
She comes in five parts, two resin and three metal.
She is one of the coolest concept to model processes I've seen in a while... the Hog on a Hog!!!

The big front wheel is a really impressive sculpt, the details go really deep into the wheel. The Bikes engine and gas tank are nicely detailed with rivets and other small things.

The resin ports for this part are on the bottom of the wheel, and on the flat parts of the gas tank. Both great places to avoid ruining details.

The rear of the bike includes the exhausts, wheel and seat. It's got some really nice detail and extra things like wrapping on the pipes which make it look "used", like its got some mileage behind it.

There are slight mould lines on this, which scraped off easily with a hobby knife. I had to be careful around the detailing on the pipes though.

The front forks, and right handle bar are cast in metal. There is flashing in the gap toward the front, in-between the spike details. I cut this away with a knife then filed it smooth.

The speedometer and various other dials are a really nice detail here. I'm going to try and paint them up nicely.

Helga's left arm is gripping the handlebar and has a chain wrapped around it. No loss of detail in the chain which is good.

Without having her sitting on the bike Helga looks a bit odd to me, the way her legs are posed... but once she's seated it all makes more sense visually. There are footrests attached to the bottom of her hooves which slot into the sides of the bike. I found I had to gentle bend her legs apart to fit her onto the bike, then pinched the feet together into the chassis to glue her in place securely.

Flowing hair meets the trim of her coat it seems here. This might be hard to paint, its hard for me to tell at this stage.

I like her goggles, and the plait of hair you can see here is a link to her previous form a little.

The goofiest part of this model in my mind,,, the <3 Carver and the denim jeans... I think they are cool in the context of Riot Quest, but can understand people not liking them in Warmahordes.

And here she is fully assembled. She really is a big model! Easily the largest Riot Quest mini I've gotten so far.

I added some greenstuff to her base to help secure the front wheel to the base as it overhangs a tiny bit. I sculpted it roughly to look like dirt being spun out as the wheel digs into the ground. (It should hopefully look better once the sand is added!)

And here she is with Professor Pendrake for scale.

I really like how she looks, though I have to admit I'm more than a little intimidated to paint her! That's a lot of model to pick colours for...
She is a lovely quality model and assembles remarkably easily considering the size and dynamic nature of the model.
