Hermit of Henge Hold Painted

The Hermit of Henge Hold is painted! To be completely honest I found this model quite uninspiring to paint which is why I left it so long to get around to working on him. I got him in the Oblivion box set when it came out (although mine did take over 6 months to arrive...) 

I wondered for a long time how I should paint him, and in the end I decided to go for a simple scheme which worked for me given how unenthusiastic about the model I was.

Now I've finished him however I'm a lot happier with the model. Though not my best work I'm happy to add him to the "finished" section of my hobby scoresheet (If I had one)

What do you think of my Hermit? Have you had a model you struggled to find the motivation to paint? If so how did you overcome it?

Using money from my generous supporters over at Patreon I purchased a rotating display stand. I like to put the money from supporters back into improving the content I make.
I'm hoping to get better at making these over time, one thing I know I want to save for is a better camera (I currently use my phone).

Model Review: Lynda The Forgotten

Today we take a look at Lynda The Forgotten who is a Specialist class hero in Riot Quest and a Infernal solo in Warmachine and Hordes.

She comes in four metal parts.

The main body is incrediably detailed... I can't overstate this. Who ever sculpted this crammed sooo much detail into a small base mini.

She has a square attachment point on her back for her backpack and round peg style ones for both arms.

Normally I would attempt to identify all the hidden details on a model like this, but in the case there really are too many and they are tricky to identify on an unpainted model.

Highlights that caught my eye however include a Cryx soul cage and a normal cultists mask.

The backpack is also overflowing with relics trinkets and dodads... included a strange monkey looking statue thing.

Her arms are really thin and feel a bit delicate. They do have minor mould lines running down them both which was a pain to remove due to how small the parts are.
These are tricky to get to stay on and you might want to try pinning them, though they are quite thin so I didn't attempt it personally.

This is an absolutely stunning mini, I'm really impressed with it. I got it for Riot Quest but I think it would make an amazing player character model for almost any RPG. Especially if its a loot obsessed character!

Well this is the last of the Winter Wasteland kickstarter Heroes reviewed! (The first wave at least)
I did get a couple of the Winter Alt sculpts but I'm not sure how interested people will be in those as they aren't going to be available for sale. Currently I'm not planning to review them. (If there is enough interest however I will go ahead and do them)

I wanted to also note the new packaging for this wave of Riot Quest minis. Fully cardboard with a Replaceable front panel (which is the art card with the same section of fluff for the mini) means that every Riot Quest mini can use the same packaging. As well as there being no plastic packaging!

This does have the slight downside that shipping them in padded envelopes could lead to the packaging being crushed where as the old plastic blister packs had no problems with this. But that's a small price to pay to be more environmentally friendly.

Model Review: Soul Stalker

So I have to start this review with a disclaimer... 

I'm very biased about this model, ever since I saw the artwork for the Soul Stalker in the Monsternomicon for the Iron Kingdoms RPG I thought it would make an amazing mini and now it exists! 

The main bulk of the upright part of this eldritch snake demon is really well detailed with bone like segmented plating and tentacles coming out of the top/back of it.

There are tiny little claw like legs along the edges of the segmented armour as well.

The tentacles are really well cast. The way the all weave in different directions and in between each other is really impressive, they could very easily have just had them all in a more uniform pattern but didn't. 

The base of the Soul Stalker includes a poor Trencher who is having his soul sucked out of his body! I will for sure be painting the Trencher to match my Cygnar army.

The head of the Soul Stalker is combined with the soul it is collecting from the Trencher, using its facial tentacles to draw it out.

The back side of this piece has a few connection points to attach some metal parts.

This is the lower half of the Trenchers soul along with a couple of the tentacles tips, it fits directly on the bottom of the resin head part. I did have to gently bend the tips of the soul so that they didn't bump into the Trencher part of the base and not allow the whole model to fit together well.

These two parts fit onto the back of the head part and are easy enough to figure out which goes where due to the different type of connection point each has. I did pin both of these to ensure that they stayed on.

Here is the Soul Stalker fully assembled! It wasn't the easiest model I have assembled, but given how dynamic the pose I think the extra complexity in assembly is a trade well worth making for such a beautiful model.

Every angle gives you something different to see on this mini, it really is a treat. I am nervous about painting it though, especially give how the soul and the tentacles are woven together.

I will have to do some slight gap filling for the joins between the metal and resin parts. You might be able to get away with not doing this but for me I want it to really look its best as a display piece.

Overall the quality of this sculpt is amazing, there was some cleanup in model lines and resin flashing, but it was minimal. I can fully recommend any IKRPG GM pick up one of these!

I guess Infernal players might want a couple as well...

This is the artwork from the Monsternomicon I mentioned earlier, I will be trying my best to match my colour choices to this art as I think its an awesome look for it. Otherworldly and sinister looking to the extreme!

Hopefully I can do it justice! I should mention I only own this because Mark of England Knights WTC fame gave me his store credit from a tournament we both attended!
