Swamp Horror Painted

My Swamp Horror is done!

I painted him up as part of my entry into the "Point per day" Warmachine and Hordes painting group on FB (you can find it here)
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the release of Hordes the theme this month is to paint a Hordes battle group.
Owning a Minions army with a lot of it being unpainted it seemed like a great opportunity to work through the backlog!

This was relatively easy to paint as like the Ironback spitter I painted recently I have previously painted a Swamp Horror about 3 years ago.

The last one I painted I didn't notice all the six little eyes it has and they are all just painted as part of the bone coloured chitin. I will likely go back and fix up the older Swamp horror so that it matches this new one at some point.

If you saw either of my other recent posts you will know that I'm trying to up my game when it comes to basing. The minions army will be getting swamp themed bases and this one was no exception.
It was a bit tricky to do given how much of the base a Swamp horror takes up with the negative space underneath it being especially tricky to add detail to. I went with a murky swamp water look under it with various plants creeping out of the water.

And here it is with the one I painted three years ago!
I'm really happy with how its turned out and I'm excited to get started on Mays challenge - finally painting my Dracodile!!!

And finally I thought I would try something new!
Using money from my generous supporters over at Patreon I purchased a rotating display stand. I like to put the money from supporters back into improving the content I make.
I'm hoping to get better at making these over time, one thing I know I want to save for is a better camera (I currently use my phone).

Ironback Spitter Painted

Ironback spitter is done!

I found this to be a relatively quick model to paint as I have already painted one before, so I didn't have to deal with choice paralysis when picking colours.

The other one is poses with arms open wide so I went with a closer pose this time.

I also wanted to do something a little exciting so I cracked out the water effects and made a swamp base. Also adding a bunch of different plants to make it look as realistic as possible.

I did run into a problem of the water effects going really cloudy and milky looking. I'm no expert so I'm not sure what I did wrong really. I left it a long time and it never cleared up so I decanted a small amount of water effects and added some brown and green ink, mixed it up and added it as a final layer to cover up the cloudiness with murky water. Its better than nothing I guess.

Here it is with the one I painted three years ago. Looking at them together I really prefer the better basing I'm now trying.

And finally I thought I would try something new!

Bloody Barnabas Painted

Bloody Barnabas emerges from the swamps to lay waste to the humans!

Although the sculpt is older and thus smaller than modern Gatorman models I really like the look of the sculpt and was keen to paint him up.

I really enjoyed painting the leather on his coat. I wanted to make it look as old and worn as I imagine it would be and I'm happy with how it turned out.

I knew I wanted to do something a bit more interesting with the basing for him so opted to add some water effects and various plants to give it a swampy look to it.

So many neat little details like the wrappings around him and the various trinkets, bones and bird skulls it really made it an interesting model to paint.

I have the axe a glowing green magic effect due to the wild magic theme I have for my Gatormen.

I'm really happy with how he turned out and will be posting the Warbeasts which will make up his battlegroup soon.

Khador Patrol Painted for IKRPG

Recently I have been concentrating in painting projects for the challenges on the Warmachine and Hordes painting group. Its been really fun to take part in them. (you can find the group here)
This month I've been painting a Minions battle group of Barnabas1 a Swamp Horror and an Ironback Spitter. I finished the actual painting a few days ago and have been just adding a thin layer of water effects to their bases each day. (They will be posted up as soon as the water effects clear up...)

With the challenge project basically finished and next months prepped and ready for May (I will be painting a Dracodile) I figured the best thing to do with my time is finishing up old projects which have been sat unfinished for a long time.

This group of Khador models I picked up very cheaply a long time ago with the plan of using them to represent a Khador patrol for Iron Kingdoms RPG encounters. Roughly two years ago I painted them up but stopped either distracted by another project or I just lost interest. They have been sat on the wip shelf on my hobby desk for the last two years until now!

This group of Winter Guard are not my "best work" but they are painted to my satisfaction for them being RPG grunt models for a party to either fight or fight alongside.

One of the eight Winter Guard I converted to represent a Jack Marshal. It is a simple conversion of adding a backpack from an old Rhulic model and putting the prybar from a Khador MoW mechanik into the bed roll. Finally putting him on a base which includes loads of mechanikal parts finishes up setting him apart from the other Winter Guard

This Mortar was missing the grunt which would normally tag along in the Wargame. This makes it basically unusable for Warmachine, but for me he works perfectly in the RPG!

The Manhunter solo was an interesting challenge to paint rough and weathered skin of a outdoorsman. Lots of leathers and fur finish off the model nicely I think.

This lone Widowmaker is missing the rest of his unit. Like the Mortar this makes him useless for a Wargame player but perfect for me!

A Destroyer is a bit of a tough thing for a party to come up against but it also adds a nice level of threat to a party and also a great way to deal with those high defence encounters with its explosive ranged attack.

The Juggernaut is a classic Warjack and it painted up easy enough. I didn't try to reinvent the wheel when painting these two Warjacks, just getting them "done" was the main goal.

I'm really glad to have these all finished, they have been sat on my desk for so long I had completely lost interest in finishing them!
They were also a good choice for me to try the snow effect texture paint which a friend of mine gifted to me.
Big thanks to him, I have plans for an interesting diorama which I plan on using it for! More on that another time....
