Hermit of Henge Hold Painted

The Hermit of Henge Hold is painted! To be completely honest I found this model quite uninspiring to paint which is why I left it so long to get around to working on him. I got him in the Oblivion box set when it came out (although mine did take over 6 months to arrive...)

I wondered for a long time how I should paint him, and in the end I decided to go for a simple scheme which worked for me given how unenthusiastic about the model I was.

Now I've finished him however I'm a lot happier with the model. Though not my best work I'm happy to add him to the "finished" section of my hobby scoresheet (If I had one)

What do you think of my Hermit? Have you had a model you struggled to find the motivation to paint? If so how did you overcome it?

Using money from my generous supporters over at Patreon I purchased a rotating display stand. I like to put the money from supporters back into improving the content I make.
I'm hoping to get better at making these over time, one thing I know I want to save for is a better camera (I currently use my phone).
Please let me know what you think of this addition to my painted model articles.
If you like it please like, comment, and subscribe on Youtube it really does help with letting Youtube know it's a video worth suggesting to other hobbyists. (And it upsets Mike...)

If you want to support my content consider taking a look at my Patreon which you can find here. I don't put any finished content behind a paywall but I do offer rewards to people who support me in ways like getting to vote on what content I work on in the future or outright just picking the next subject of an article as well as posting wip projects.
Even if it's just $1 it really helps me out!

Mekanoshredder (Winter alt sculpt) Painted

Mekanoshredder is finished! Or at least the winter alt sculpt... so small disclaimer, I don't own the normal version, when the Winter Kickstarter was launched and this alt sculpt was shown I did not own the normal Mekanoshredder and being a bit frugal I decided not to buy the normal one.
This does mean that Mekanoshredder is the ONLY general release Riot Quest mini I have not done a model review for!

Picking the colour scheme for my "mekano" things became more relevant once Mekanolyth was announced, I'm quite happy with how this medium grey looks on it and will see how I can apply it to Lyth when I get round to painting her.

Having the key be a dirty brass really appealed to me as it matches my mind view of old clockwork toys.

I really like the Warjack cortex it is biting onto as if it's a ball. It really gives the model a playful look to it.

Well this is me closer than ever to getting my year one Riot Quest collection fully painted. I just need to finish Feora, Flugwug, the gear expansion, the grind set & the Burrow maug.
Hopefully, I can get them finished and push on into the winter models.

Model Review: Mekanolyth

Today lets take a look at Mekanolyth, who is a Scout class hero in Riot Quest and a Legion of Everblight Warlock for Hordes.

She comes in three metal parts as seen here.

The main body is nicely detailed with crisp detailing in the mechanical parts making up the legs but especially the waist.

The gun arm is a lot different than I expected it to be, mainly as it is exactly that - a gun arm, there is no left hand holding it though there is a right hand stabilising it which is nicely cast.

The head and Cape part also include some sort of hairpiece laying over the top of the cape. The cave itself appears to be made of metal blades or sheets which will make it interesting to paint compared to other capes, I'm not quite sure what to do about the hairpiece though...

There are some excess metal flashing on the bottom half of the cape, this was fairly easy to remove with sharp hobby knife and a file.

And here she is fully assembled. I found that she went together quite easily, though if you are very heavy-handed with your miniatures you might consider pinning her.

Here's a scale shot with Professor Pendrake, She is just about the right size I would expect from a meckanikal Warlock!

A cheeky 360 spin for you

Mekanolyth is a nicely detailed model and outside of the aforementioned issues with the cape, the model requires very little in the way of cleanup.

Model Review: Malvin Revenge Artist

Today we take a look at Malvin Revenge Artist, who is a Rogue class hero in Riot Quest and a Mercenary Minon solo in Warmachine and Hordes. He comes as a single piece metal miniature so assembly is... well its not important.

The jump suit he is wearing is nicely detailed and it will be interesting to paint, do I paint it light purple like the official art, or orange like this guy?

I really like the added detail of ice crystals on the barrel of his gun and also on the tank he wears on his back are really nice additions. I've not painted ice before so that will be a fun challenge.

And here he is "fully assembled".
(it's what I normally say at this point so old habits and all that...)

Scale shot time! Malvin fits in with the other gobbers pretty well.

Malvin has been scaled up this time, which is more evidence that Malvin & Mayhem should have been a larger model!

A cheeky 360 spin for you

Malvin is a really nicely detailed mini with barely any mould lines to clean up at all.

Pack Donkey Painted

This simple donkey... for so long it has sat on my wip shelf waiting to be finished. The recent push to finish up old projects has been really helpful in motivating me to get stuff done.

Such a lovely cheap mini from Reaper Miniatures, which fits perfectly in so many settings. I plan on mainly using it in the Iron Kingdoms RPG.

This is an ass's arse. Yes, I said it.

I really love the random assortment of things it is carrying. I think it's pretty perfect for an RPG parties pack donkey or it could be owned by an NPC or enemy? The opportunities are almost endless.

The face was actually the main thing that stopped me from finishing this mini years ago. In the end I used google image search to find pictures of grey donkeys and just like that I got it done.
The take away - use reference images folks!

What do you think of my Donkey?
What would you name it?

Order of Illumination Resolutes Painted

My push to finish up projects which have been work in progress for way too long has been going pretty well! I've been letting my Patrons pick what I work on which has been helping motivate me and "stay on target"
Currently I'm working on the choices they picked for me (Totem Huntress, Feora4, Meckanoshredder & a Donkey). If you want to help pick what I work on next and support me at the same time you can find the current poll here

So both my units of Resolutes are now finished and it's been a long time coming! I'm really happy with how they turned out and that they match the previous Morrowan things I've painted.

This was one of my first times painting round "gems" like this. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

I really link the way the glowing runes on the sword turned out. I'm going to try and replicate this on the Vigilants when I get round to painting them.

I really like the grunts armed with the guns, I think they look really cool.
