Malvin & Mayhem Painted

Malvin & Mayhem join my crew! I really enjoyed painting this mini and decided it was a good opportunity to add loads of weathering effects, damage and corrosion.

I spent a lot of the "painting time" was actually just sat there trying to choose colours for various armour plates. This is often my biggest slow down when painting a mini without a colour scheme already established.

Part of me wanted to paint the yellow armour plate on this shoulder as yellow and black hazard stripes but I chickened out... I was very much feeling like I would rather finish the model up and be happy with it, and move onto something else than spend more time risking ruining it! One day I might go back as try it... but to be honest I doubt it.

I really enjoyed playing with various corrosion effects on this Warjack from simple rust and dirt to verdigris.

M&M was a great mini to paint and I'm happy to have it ready for boss fight modes in Riot Quest, and it will be making appearances in my Warmachine and Hordes armies as well for sure!

And finally I thought I would try something new! 
Using money from my generous supporters over at Patreon I purchased a rotating display stand. I like to put the money from supporters back into improving the content I make.
I'm hoping to get better at making these over time, one thing I know I want to save for is a better camera (I currently use my phone).

Stryker Archon Morrowan Archon Alternate Sculpt: Model Review

Today we take a look at the Stryker Archon Morrowan Archon Alternate Sculpt, this is a exclusive model only available via Privateer Press on their webstore
It was kindly gifted to me by Michael Scott so a huge thanks to him!

This review has been somewhat delayed due to me losing the pictures in a hardware change over the summer last year. Recently I found the pictures and decided to get the review written.

He comes in six pieces one of which is resin the rest are metal.

The body and cloak are really nicely cast, the detail in the armour plates is very smooth.

The head attaches in here with a dent and bump attachment point. It attaches easily but I have decided to leave it off and paint it separately given how recessed into the armour his face is. I would struggle to paint his mouth otherwise.

These are the wing attachment points, they are deep but I was worried that they might not be able to hold the metal wings but it turns out that they hold on fine.

The resin injection ports are on the bottom and that is fantastic as they can be clipped off with no fear of ruining any detail.

The metal wings are really nicely cast. I was a little surprised to see that they are metal given that the original Morrowan archon has resin wings. I'm sure PP have their reasons for this choice.

His left hand ends with a fist, as an alternative sculpt it doesn't seem to be armed the same as the original version which might lead to some confusion (Its equipped with a shield in its rules) best to remind your opponent.

The connection points for both arms are really good, I didn't feel the need to pin either of these as they combine the peg which goes into the torso and also the shoulder armour fits into larger shoulder plate on the main body.

The sword is really nicely done, it has visual elements of Strykers Quicksilver weapon with added Morrowan iconography. 

The head is really detailed for a tiny part. I will be painting this separately like I mentioned earlier which means I will likely pin it so I can hold it pushed onto a wine cork.

And here it is fully assembled. Apologies for these following pictures not being my normal standard. I forgot to photograph the miniature before undercoating it. 

This alternative sculpt is really nice, although it does have the slight drawbacks of being armed differently which adds an extra bit of explaining in some games, and also the wings aren't in the same set up as the original which means that the wings can't be magnetised for transport sadly.

Other than those tiny nit picks its a lovely miniature which has barely any mould lines or issues at all

Model Review: Death Archon

Today we take a look at the Death Archon, a Mercenary/Minion solo for Warmachine and Hordes.
This model was sent to me to review by Privateer Press

The model comes in eight pieces three of which are resin, the rest are metal.

The main resin body is really nicely detailed with deep folds in the cloth and between the ribcage.

There is a resin support between the back of the model and the tip of its trailing cloth. This needs clipping off and shaving clean. It didn't take too long at all.

There are resin injection ports on the bottom of the model which clip off easily.

The two dents the wings attach into are nicely done, I dry fitted the wings and they seemed like they would attach securely.

I think this model will be a treat to paint, so many interesting details adorn the main body.

You can wee the attachment point for the hourglass here just below the hip armour plate.

The wings come on a resin sprue, like I always say - I recommend that you clip these off slightly further away from the part itself and then use a knife to clean it up carefully.

The wings are really nicely sculpted there is tons of webbing skin detail which will take various highlights during painting beautifully.

Be extra careful cleaning up the ends of the wings where they attach to the body, you don't want to cut off too much and make it harder to fit into the body.

The two arms holding the poles for the weapons, these did have mould lines running down both of them sadly which given the spine bone detail took a while to file off.

The blades of the scythes are quite large and have a skull detail on the end which connects with the pole. I have seen people glue these on in both the possible directions which allows for some posing.

It has an hourglass which fits onto its left hip. There is a small amount of rope texture in one side of the top part, this is the side which faces outward.

Here it is fully assembled.

And here is the scale shot with Professor Pendrake. Its size is on par if not larger than some of the other Archons I have assembled.

The Death Archon is a stunning miniature with great details and is really nicely produced. 

I've already seen some amazing paint jobs of this model out in the community and I look forward to painting it up myself when I can.
