Three WarJacks painted

Painted up three Jacks this week!
Triumph and two Grenadier's

This is where his hammer should be...

While Triumph may not be the best Jack in the game he does look quite cool.

My two Grenadier's Dig and Dug!
Love these guys, I just wish they were a little cheaper.
They are great fun Marshaled to Gunmages for push shenanigans...

Trenchers please insert ammo here

What do you think of these guys? How do you think my colour scheme works on Warjacks?

Sword Knights Painted

Finished up my Sword Knights today!
I have a second unit and a second UA but they need stripping before I can start on them.
I use these guys a lot they are my go to guys for holding zones or fueling pAlexia...

Max unit with UA

I was torn for a while on how to keep them in my black colour scheme. In the end I settled on shoulders and shields. I think they fit in nicely with my other painted stuff.

The officer, he was a bit of a pain to paint. The white... so many layers! Lots of fiddly detail on him too took quite a while to get all the gold detailing neat.

Standard barer, I have heard that some people replace the flag pole with brass rod. I'm just hoping I don't have to I can see that it could quite easily bend or snap though.

Some of the grunts

What do you think of my colour scheme for them? Do you think I should paint the second unit the same or alter it slightly?

Models painted and Tournament results

I got a few models painted for the league and here they are!

pCaine is one of my favourite warcasters and was a joy to paint. I'm still not trying to paint eyes properly and doubt I ever will. Just not that good a painter.
Warcasters get glowing blue eyes non magic users get inked faces only.

The squire is one of my oldest Cygnar models so I had felt bad that I had left it unfinished for so long, It needed a repaint as I had half finished it back when I painted the standard blue Cygnar colour scheme. I like how he looks in black the glowing coils aren't as good as I would like but I'm done fussing forever on tiny details I have loads more to paint before I worry about repainting things like that!

Viktor Pendrake was fun to paint I did him as a treat to myself as I wanted to use him in the weekends tournament painted so got him finished up.

pCaine sports the black colour scheme I have chosen for my Cygnar on his shoulder pads, forearms and shins. Other than that I painted him similar to the rest of my gun mages

The Squire... yeah he'll do. Might revisit him one day but thats fine for now.

Pendrake is my only painted model to date with any kind of blood or visible signs of battle about them. The beast head under his boot forced my hand on this one... I hope the blood looks realistic enough.

So thats three models painted so far for the league giving me 3 exp and putting my Gun mage Captain Adept up to 15 exp allowing me to take a tier 2 upgrade!
I'm going to give him the "sniper training" upgrade which gives him a 3" move once he completes his action.

Tournament results

This Sunday's tournament went really well, our local press ganger Dave hosted a great day.
I won 2 of my 3 games and came 4th! Really happy I attended I met a bunch of players from out of town who I would not ordinarily get to play.

Breakdown of my games...

Game one was against Legion, he used Bethayne and I ran eCaine the scenario was Outflank.
The threat of Caine's feat kept his battlegroup back and I took apart the rest of the army over a few turns. It ended with Caine (Who had spent most of the game near the right zone) moving quickly over to the right to finish off the last couple of Hex hunters and gatecrashing into the zone to put me up to 3 points. (I had scored 1 on a previous turn) On his turn he couldn't get enough to the left zone to contest and clocked himself.

Game two was against Menoth, he used eFeora and I used eHaley the scenario was Destruction.
This was a very bad game for me (which also meant I learnt a lot!).
The Judicator setting most of my army on fire and there being little I could do to stop it was hard to get over. That and Eiryss keeping my Stormclad disrupted meant I faltered. (Eiryss even hit the Stormclad when it was in melee and deflection up...)
I lost this game but learnt that spacing apart is more important to keep Sword Knights alive than the +2 ARM from defensive line.

Game three was against Cryx, he used pSkarre and I used eCaine the scenario was Close Quarters.
He got first turn, allocated 3 to his Jacks (no warwitches) and ran turn one to quickly close the distance. Looking at how far up Skarre was I measured my feat and was eyeballing to see if she was within 22" of Caine. I figured she likely was but she had a jack in front of her so I would have to move at a slight angle to get line of sight. I ran with Alexia and the risen carefully placing one 10" in front of Caine. I activated Caine had him charge the risen which he easily killed, check line of sight to Skarre. Yup I had line of sight and range so I popped feat and shot her down.
As it was a really quick game we reset my turn and played a friendly while the other players finished their games.

All in all I had a great time and am looking forward to the next one in April. But until then I have the league to keep me busy!

Tournament and League prep

The press ganger in my local area is running a couple of events that I will be getting involved in.

First is a 35 point tournament (which is tomorrow)
I normally play at 50 points so its a bit tricky trying to fit all the things I want in lists but the local club hasn't had much of a tournament scene until now so they are starting things off at a lower points level.

My lists are:

eHaley
Squire
Stormclad
Gorman
Jr
Gunmages + UA
Sword Knights (Max)
Stormblades + UA +1WA
Effigy of Valor

eCaine
Ol'Rowdy
Taryn
Viktor Pendrake
pAlexia
Gunmages + UA
Rangers
Bommhowlers (Max)
Effigy of Valor

What do you think of these list do you think they pair well? What changes would you make?

I'm lacking pathfinder in both lists but hopefully that won't bite me in the arse too much...

These are stripped down versions of the 50 point lists I have been running for a while so Hopefully all should go well.

One of the things I have been practicing has been deployment. Having a "default" deployment has been a nice way to not use as much of the death clock time during deployment.

Its also easy enough to practice at home on my painting table and then I only need to tweak things a little depending on terrain or my opponent.

Real life has slowed down my painting the last month or so the other event running at my local club should help with that.

They are running the League of Devastation so I will be painting models to gain exp that I can spend to upgrade my Gunmage Captain Adept.

Probably the least used solos in Cygnar... slightly jealous of some of the other factions hero choices

I don't normally run him (so many 2 point models to choose from...) so its interesting getting to put him on the table. I played my first two games in the league this Tuesday and won both! (ending a losing streak I had been on for some weeks)

To date he has gained 13 exp so far I spent 5 to give him +2 range and am keeping the remaining 7 to spend on a tier 2 ability. I'm leaning towards Sniper training at the moment (3" move after a completed action) Could keep him out of reprisal range when he kills something.

I'm planning on getting a bunch of painting done to level him up a bit. Seems like a good way to encourage myself to paint!

I also was given the Scenario for Iron kingdoms should anyone want to earn some exp playing the RPG as I am currently GMing Iron kingdoms I can easily set this up for people.

I'm thinking about seeing if anyone at my local wants to do an unbound game to round off the league might be a fun way to end it.

League rules can be found here for anyone interested

So all things willing I should have some painted models to show you guys soon, wish me luck for the tournament I will try to post up about it!

Rangers Painted

Got my Rangers painted!
I love using these guys they add a lot for 5 points in a shooty list. eCaine never leaves home with out them.

The leader, bit of a Chuck Norris looking guy

What do you think of them? Do you ever run a second unit?

Army update

The players at my local club have encouraged me to play more competitively and with that I have changed my lists.
The guys wanted practice against eHaley for example. I don't often use her as I find her play style doesn't really feel that fun to me. But I am giving it a good try.
With that I present to you my current lists

eHaley
Squire
Stormwall
Anastasia
Gorman
Journeyman Warcaster
Runewood
Sword Knights (Max)
Gun mage pistoleers +UA
Stormblades +UA +2WA

eCaine
Squire
Ol' Rowdy
Reinholdt
Rhupert
Journeyman Warcaster
Taryn
eEiryss
StormSmith stormcaller
Alexia and the risen
Sword Knights (Max)
Gun mage pistoleers +UA
Ranger
Aiyana & Holt
Black 13th

The Caine list hasn't changed in quite a while, eCaine is probably my favourite caster. Certainly the one I have used the most.

The eHaley list is getting tweaked every time I have an issue with it.
For example the first draft of it I forgot to add any pathfinder and fought Madhammer who just cast inhospitable ground and shut me down.

In my next game I played against pKreoss with double Judicator. I had the same list as above but instead of a Stormwall I had a Stormclad and Trenchers with UA.
The Trenchers did a good job providing a smoke wall to deny the Judicators shooting. My problem came later in the game when Haley gets knocked down by his feat and shot to death (the damage roll of the last possible shot was exactly enough to kill her).
I needed something better to keep Haley safe so I swapped them out for the Stormwall.

We got a rematch later in the week and ended up picking the same casters! (His second list is Harbinger and he told me later there was no way he would risk her against Caine)
This match went a lot better for me and ended with Stormwall punching Kreoss into the ground after he and the Stormblades chewed through both Judicators.

I am still getting to grips with the list and changing it as I find issues with it. I still need to figure out Anastasia... I really am not using her well yet she has yet to do anything for me.

Anyone got any tips for getting the most out of her? I have yet to get an "espionage" off yet. So I'm interested to know how you all get it done?

If you guys have any changes you would make to either of my lists let me know! Although cries for Boomhowlers and Forgeguard will be met by "I don't own them yet!" If I could afford them I would get them but since moving across the country for family I have yet to find a job yet so buying anything new is out for a while...

Iron Kingdoms: Session 1

I ran my first session of Iron Kingdoms as a GM which was a little nerve racking but fun!
Spoiler note. This is a adventure from No quarter magazine No. 44 if you plan on playing this as a player you should not read on.

The group are the only known surviving members of a mercenary group that had been hired to help defend Cygnar's southern coast. With their unit destroyed they where forced to pick up whatever work they could to try and earn passage back to the city of Five Fingers the home of their base of operations.

Current Party Members

Grodde Lochforge
Intellectual Dwarf FieldMechanik/Investigator

Shengis
Mighty Trollkin BountyHunter/Ranger

Iggy Radburr
Interlectual Gobber Alchemist/Thief

They picked up a job guarding a merchant's supply caravan to the Cygnaran city of Mercir and then back all the way to Five Fingers. On the return journey the group reached a coastal village they intended to stop at for the night finding it burnt to the ground.

A young woman the lone survivor desperately trying to bury her dead neighbors. After calming her the party learn that she survived as she was in the cellar during the attack. She heard her brother and sister screaming and crying as they where carried off towards the end of the attack.
Surveying the bodies ........ came to the conclusion that the villagers where killed in a methodical and efficient manner, most likely by professional killers. What items of value did exist in the simple fishing village had not been stolen. .......... found tracks leading away from the village into the nearby forrest.

The young girl pleaded with the party to take her to the nearby Cygnaran fort of SouthShield and they agree.
At the fort they meet Captain Finnean who is grateful they have helped out and ask if they could track down the perpetrators and gives them authorisation to deal with them as he doesn't have the resources to send out any men.
The party agree and head to the forest following the trail left by the bandits ..... tracking their movements through the trees.

They come across a wounded man in a clearing who lifts his pistol to aim at them but passes out.
They provide him with medical attention, bringing him round so they can talk to him. After reassuring him of their good intentions he tells them that he was tracking a rouge arcanist called Bowden Haightly. They are told that Bowden has been practicing dark magic and has stolen a Necromantic tome that the Order of Illumination would be willing to reward them for recovering.
He dies shortly after from his wounds, ...... pockets his pistol and closes his eyelids.

Following the trail of blood the Illuminated one left the party reach the farmstead.
They have arrived just as a fight has broken out between five armed men and a Talon Warjack (which for some reason is carrying a man instead of a shield.
Hearing children's screams coming from the barn the party move forward to join the fight.
As soon as they approach the battle the Warjack disengages and runs off further into the forest.
The party move forward to the farms outer walls for cover firing as they advance.
After a few initial volleys of gunfire Shengis cuts down two of the mercs with Grodde and his Jack accounting for two more. The last guard runs off into the woods.

With the immediate danger passed they set about freeing the children who they find chained up in the barn. While Iggy is picking the locks the others take a look around the barn and get a sense of what has transpired here. The story the children tell them combined with Bowdens journal they found under a tool box they come to realise that Bowden was coerced into continuing his research by a man called Vladislav Abrosim. They also find what they assume is the stolen book the Illuminated ones had be trying to retrieve .

They pick through the bodies of the fallen guards and find that one is still alive, Grodde administers first aid and they "have a little chat". The guard doesn't reveal all too much only that he and the other mercs where hired via an intermediary to keep Bowden in the barn working and keep anyone else out. Shengis him up and they follow the trail of broken branches and scrub left in the wake of the Warjack.

They catch up with it in a clearing, the man they presume to be Bowden laying at its metal feet.
Desperate and unable to talk in his current form Bowden gestures to the party to keep back. They lower their weapons and try to talk Bowden down, after some time and persauation they convince Bowden that they are not there to harm him. Grodde indicates that he can extend the burn time on Bowdens boiler, which should keep him alive longer.

They all head back to Southshield and report to Captain Finnean who is extremely pleased to hear that the culprits of the destruction of the village have been brought to justice.
He gives them 50 gold for their efforts. He also informs them that a member of the Order of Illumination arrived just after they left and has asked to meet with them. He offers to have their Warjack refueled while they talk.

Inside the fort they find Joss Reyson who debriefs them. They tell him the events of the day and where to find the bodies of the other members of his order. He asks after the Necromantic tome and if it was recovered. The party hand it over and in return Joss hands them a sword. The Deprecator telling them that it will protect its owner from magical foes. They also inform him of Bowdens fate and appeal on his behalf to try to save the man, saying that his knowledge about the man who forced him to experiment with evil could be used to find a more dangerous foe. He reluctantly agrees and promises to do what he can for Bowden.

The party inform Bowden what will happen next and he offers a huge Warjack finger as a hand shake.
After sleeping the night at the fort the party return to the caravan and carry on their journey towards Five Fingers...

Just in case anyone wanted to see what it really looked like!
